Nors and her friend (one of the 5 Lisas she knows) stumbled upon 24 Treford Place one day, a disarmingly sleek building tucked
away in a back alley. Since then, alley walks have piqued CRD's interest - not only because said HQ is located in Shanghai
Alley, but it's such a different way of exploring the city. And it adds another dimension to Urban Hiking.
Fortunately someone already did the work for CRD and laid out some lane routes (see map above). Spacing, a really great website, duly notes the longest alley in the West End. Grame Perry offers free biking tours of the secret spaces (check out the interactive map), but CRD questions the safety of operating
a two-wheeled vehicle while gardening. Remember: It's all fun and games, until someone topples over their bike and takes
a gash in the temple.
NB: CRD loves getting mail! An indigant Lisa #2 wrote in about the lack of representation of her own secret alley - Skey Lane.
Well, Lisa #2, CRD sadly could not find a published map with Skey Lane, but with a bit of fiddling on Google Earth, here it is.
DINNER PARTY MAKEOVER
At a recent stew & rice get together at Nors' apartment, the familiar after dinner Charades routine was shelved for an emergency
episode of Apartment Makeover. Joseph and Carlo provided and executed the colour and furniture arrangement consulation, while
FQ hit the bookshelves to purge (Shelly: "Why do you need a shoehorn?") and tidy up.
The colour choices for the living room are below and will replace the blue tone she has on the three walls. The one deep berry
wall will remain.
Click on the Farrow & Ball paint can above (product/paint/all colours) to see the colour samples. Vote now and be prepared
to show up with paint brush in hand.
Nors, prepping for the big day.
MEMORY MAPS
Paps and I were chatting one night about mapping everyone's travel history, and thanks to the mighty World Wide Web, we can.
CRD will add memory mapping to the To-Do List, but in the meantime, explore the map above to see a sample. [Pop-up notes should appear when you move
your mouse over the dots.) If that tickles your fancy, you really should check out Google Earth .
Oh, the wonders of the Internet.
OVERHEARD
"Screw the fashion show, all I can think about is a grilled cheese sandwich"
"FQ, do you have a plaid skirt I can borrow?"
CRD MAIL
NORS: Just wanted CRD readers to know the colours for my apartment
are still up in the air.
It occurred to me the very next morning of our stew-&-home-makeover-night with J&C that all the colours looked strikingly
familiar. Bone, Drab and French Grey all have the neutral tones I remember seeing in J&C's humble abode!!! They chose their
colours for my mishmash apt!
Not only that! One fine Spring day I decided to walk home, taking my
path down Church St., as I passed the local boys' Benjamin Moore
sponsored hardware store I noticed the "in" colours were similar to the neutral tones J&C picked out for me!
Is there a colour conspiracy happening out there?
